Sketch The Met
Sketch The Met is an ongoing project that treats museum images as a daily site for close inspection and quiet study. Each visit to the accompanying web app reveals a single, random artwork from The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Open Access collection, creating a private encounter rather than a shared prompt or public challenge.
Working with ink, gouache, and simple materials, these artworks are reimagined as a way of thinking on paper—using contour, proportion, and repeated lines to understand the decisions another artist once made. The project asks what changes when sketching is framed not as performance but as attention: minutes of honest looking, without expectation of mastery or audience.
